MATTARELLO AWAY PROJECT

It all started with a rolling pin, in Italian - mattarello, the tool that takes us around the world: mattarello away, far away. But it is also a means of communication, it helps us meet and connect with people.
What we propose is a culinary exchange where we prepare and show how to prepare typical Italian dishes, with homemade pasta stretched with rolling pin is in the center.  We always travel with our "tool of the trade" and propose an exchange to those willing to share their own traditional recipes with us.

Our project brings women into focus as it is often they who pass their love for cooking on to new generations. We meet mothers and grandmothers around the world willing to teach us their traditional dishes in the same way as those have been handed down to them by their own mothers and grandmothers. We treasure the opportunity to learn about new ingredients and cooking methods, documenting each step.

In the Travel section of this website, you can find all the authentic recipes that we have come to enjoy.

So, what is Mattarello(a)way but a way to join our two passions - food and travel which we then can share with you.

Growing up in Italy, Sunday was not worthy its name without a nice plate of homemade pasta, prepared in the early morning by the family cook – in my case it was always my grandma.
The hand-made pasta is the foundation of the vast cuisine of Emilia-Romagna, so, in the Homemade Pasta section, I will introduce you to the main types of fresh homemade pasta and some traditional condiments that go with it.
