Faccio un piccolo passo indietro. Al termine di una splendida mattinata a casa di Anu, ho proposto un po’ titubante “se vi va, possiamo tornare e cucinare noi questa volta. Potremmo farvi assaggiare un vero piatto di pasta fatta in casa” La nostra proposta ha suscitato allegria e un entusiasmo inaspettato: “Saremmo felici ed onorate”. Così ci siamo accordate per il lunedì successivo. Oggi.

I’ll begin with a small step back in time. After a wonderful morning at Anù’s home, I proposed, a bit hesitantly, "If you'd like us to, we could cook for you this time." I explained we would prepare a real homemade pasta dish for them. Our proposal caused great joy and unexpected enthusiasm. "We would be happy and honored" she replied, and so we agreed to meet on Monday.

La nostra giornata di cucina è piena di sorrisi, con Lila che mi chiama e mi prende per il braccio per farmi vedere i vari passaggi delle sue ricette. Mi mostra gli ingredienti, mi fa annusare le spezie, mi fa assaggiare i vari intingoli durante la cottura.

Our day in Lila and Sini's kitchen was full of fun and cheerful smiles. Lila who was calling me and taking me by my arm to show me different steps of her recipes. She was showing me all the ingredients, having me smell and taste them, making sure I wrote it all down.

Ed eccoci qua, a seguire Baloo nel villaggio in mezzo alle palme fino ad una casa piuttosto modesta. Un cane ed una gallina in cortile tra alberi di cocco e di curry, sulla porta visi sorridenti ad accoglierci.

Richiede un paio di giorni lasciarsi andare ad un luogo.
Quando si viaggia per lungo tempo si scopre una nuova sensazione o dimensione, quella del non-tempo. Non c’è fretta. Scompare l’urgenza di vedere il più possibile nei pochi giorni che hai a disposizione per visitare ogni meta del tuo viaggio. Puoi prenderti il tempo di andare oltre la facciata.

It takes a few days to let yourself go in a new place. When traveling for a long time, a new dimension is discovered, a timeless one. There's no rush. The urgency to see as many things as possible in a limited (and often too short time) completely disappears. You find yourself having all the time in the world to reach beyond the surface of the places you visit.
